Our SoCal community boasts of some of the most legendary Filipino Martial Artists from various disciplines and backgrounds. Let’s get to know them and their inspiring stories of how they became martial artists, what inspired them and so much more!

Darryl Vidal
Ju Dan, Kenpo Karate 10th Degree Grandmaster, Actor

Darryl started training in karate as a teenager in Chino, California under the instruction of Grandmaster Joe Rosas. He attained his Sho Dan (black belt – 1st degree) in 1981. Through his career Darryl continues to teach Kenpo Karate and Filipino Martial Arts. Darryl is best known for his role in the movie “Karate Kid.” Darryl was chosen to be the stunt double for the actor Pat Morita’s role, “Mr. Miyagi” on the beach doing the now famous “crane kick.” Darryl also appeared as himself in the tournament fighting scenes later in the tournament semi-finals. In 2012, Darryl was promoted to Ju Dan (10th degree Grandmaster) by GM Rosas and the Rosas Kenpo Karate Association (RKKA) after over 30 years of training and teaching.

Roger started his journey in Filipino Martial Arts in 1990 in Los Angeles. The focus of his arts is into applied combatives and self-defense with specializations in weapon arts such as knives, long and short blades (machetes and bolos), impact weapons (stick and batons) as well as empty hands. His knowledge has provided him opportunities to teach internationally from the U.S, Canada, Mexico, Europe to Asia.
