Thor Valiente’s concert a success!

Music took on a deeper meaning as singer, actor, and philanthropist Thor Valiente headlined "Make Your Nanay & Tatay Proud: A Concert for a Cause" at Noypitz in Long Beach, California, on Sunday, June 21. More than a showcase of talent, the evening celebrated family, gratitude, and compassion while raising awareness for street children and children battling cancer.

The program featured an impressive lineup of guest performers, including Mariel Tomas, Joel Ortega, Cath Alix, Cristiani Rebada, Janice Javier, and Imelda Bosing, along with a community Zumba led by Nonie Belarmino, raffles, and heartfelt tributes to mothers and fathers.

Following an inspiring video presentation highlighting his journey from child actor to rising performer, Thor captivated the audience with a dynamic set featuring favorites such as Man's World, Magasin, Dance With My Father, an Ogie Alcasid medley, and his original songs Bahagi and #Haha!

Known as a two-time grand finalist on Tawag ng Tanghalan, an alumnus of The Voice Teens Philippines, and a contestant on Viva's Next Big Star, Thor continues to prove that his artistry extends far beyond the stage. Through his commitment to charitable causes and uplifting performances, "Make Your Nanay & Tatay Proud" became more than an evening of entertainment—it was a heartfelt celebration of family, generosity, and the power of music to bring people together.

Honore Brings the Purple

Purple Generation electrifies the City of La Mirada

The music of Prince came alive in spectacular fashion on Friday, July 3, as Honore and his acclaimed Prince tribute band, Purple Generation, took the stage during the City of La Mirada's annual Independence Celebration at La Mirada Regional Park. Performing before thousands of residents and visitors, the band helped kick off one of Southern California's most anticipated Fourth of July celebrations.

Held as the city's official Independence Celebration, the annual event featured live entertainment, food vendors, family activities, and a spectacular fireworks finale. Sharing the evening's entertainment with Motown tribute band Stone Soul, Purple Generation delivered a high-energy performance filled with Prince classics including "1999," "Let's Go Crazy," "Kiss," "Little Red Corvette," and the iconic "Purple Rain."

Art, Music, and Culture Take Over Grand Avenue During DTLA ArtNight

Downtown Los Angeles came alive during DTLA ArtNight as museums and cultural institutions along Grand Avenue opened their doors for an evening celebrating art, creativity, and community. Visitors explored destinations including The Broad, The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), and Grand Performances, making it easy to experience world-class visual and performing arts in one walkable corridor.

One of the evening's highlights was Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind at The Broad, the artist's first solo museum exhibition in Southern California. Organized in collaboration with Tate Modern, the exhibition spans more than seven decades of Ono's work as a visual artist, performance artist, musician, filmmaker, and peace activist. Visitors were invited to experience participatory works, including Wish Tree, where guests tied handwritten wishes to olive tree branches as a symbol of hope and peace. Another memorable installation, My Mommy Is Beautiful, invited visitors to write messages honoring their mothers, while video galleries featured Ono and John Lennon's iconic peace campaign, including "Give Peace a Chance," reinforcing the exhibition's enduring message of peace, love, and human connection.

Just across the street, Grand Performances presented J. Period and Josh Kun Present: The Art of the Crossfade, a musical lecture exploring how DJs and producers blend different genres and cultures to create new musical experiences. The program highlighted how crossfading serves as both a technical skill and a powerful symbol of cultural exchange, demonstrating how music can bridge cultures and create new artistic expression.

DTLA ArtNight once again showcased why Grand Avenue remains one of Los Angeles' premier arts destinations, giving visitors an opportunity to experience contemporary art, live music, and creative expression—all in one unforgettable evening.

Sri Lanka Takes Center Stage at the 45th Annual Lotus Festival

Los Angeles' rich cultural diversity was on full display as thousands gathered at Echo Park Lake on July 11–12 for the 45th Annual Lotus Festival, an annual tradition celebrating the many Asian and Pacific Islander communities that call Southern California home. This year's festival honored Sri Lanka, inviting visitors to experience the island nation's vibrant traditions through music, dance, food, arts, and cultural exhibits. Hosted by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks in partnership with Lotus Festival, Inc., the free, family-friendly event featured cultural performances, artisan vendors, community organizations, educational exhibits, and international cuisine.

Visitors enjoyed live entertainment throughout the weekend, including traditional Sri Lankan dance and music, multicultural performances, and the popular Dragon Boat Races, one of the festival's signature attractions. Guests also explored artisan booths, cultural exhibits, nonprofit organizations, community resource tables, and family-friendly activities while taking in the beauty of the blooming lotus flowers.

Food was another highlight of the festival, with vendors offering flavors from across Asia and the Pacific. Among them, Neri's Restaurant proudly represented the Filipino community, serving authentic Filipino cuisine alongside a variety of international specialties. Festival attendees also enjoyed seeing Jocelyn Chun, Miss Cambodia, who donned a beautiful traditional Cambodian costume, adding to the vibrant display of Asian cultural attire throughout the weekend.

As families gathered to enjoy performances, discover new cultures, and connect with community organizations, the Lotus Festival once again demonstrated how arts, culture, and shared experiences can bring people together while celebrating the diversity that makes Los Angeles unique.
